I love the Christmas holidays! Learning to walk again after three days of inactivity was a chore but necessary. Mr Lane was hosting his legendary Yuletide game and I wasn’t going to miss that. We played a factional encounter with my Union troops trying to evict the Rebs from a ridge.

Craig opted to command the Confederates and yes, he does always dress like that! He placed his artillery centrally in one grand battery. I still had bitter memories of massed artillery at Worth so opted to avoid the central ridge.

Rather, I would rely on two converging columns. I thought that my right hook could turn into a feint as the Confederates massed in the cornfields to the rear.

Sure enough the rebel artillery took a telling toll of my green gunners. The corn looked to be moving as my right colum looked to be facing two whole Confederate brigades. And they were intent on catching my infantry in columns of March.

Sheltered from view by the left hand hill, my other column made rapid progress. Admittedly it was hard for the Rebs to defend when my rifles out ranged the defenders smoothbore muskets and my artillery concentrated on the breastwork rather than counter-battery Fire.

The battle hung in the balance as I forced to pass command to Mike L in order to comply with commands from a higher authority, i.e. the Kaiser rang. Could my right hold as my left rolled up the Confederate defence? We can but wait and see?….
