This week’s troops off the tabletop from Mike Lane….

After just about a month’s work, I can report completion of the second part of my Early Imperial Roman Army, namely two Auxiliary Cohortes, two Auxiliary Alae, a Roman Tribunus on foot with his escort and my new Roman Camp.

The camp is based on various scenes on Trajan’s Column where the Emperor is taking the Auspices in front of the army’s standards by sacrificing a Bull (definitely not Tommy Steele’s “Little White Bull”), a Goat and a Pig. All are based for “To the Strongest!” though the Camp is on a 15mm square base so will entirely fill up a 15 cm grid square.
All are Foundry figures save that the Lictors and officiating Haruspex, his assistants and the Bull are from Footsore Miniatures. The man with the Pipes and the long trumpet (both shown on Trajan’s Column) are from Eureka’s Macedonian range, hence the very short tunics. The pig and goat are from Pendraken.

All in all a very successful month’s work Michael! My own efforts have been sadly lacking in comparison I’m afraid. ( Ed)
