Wouldn’t it be nice if things were simple. Something catches your interest, you commit and then you are in! Wargaming of course isn’t usually like that. You twist and turn between periods, you can’t decide between scales and then you need to adhere to basing conventions and rules. Then comes preparation of the miniatures and motivating yourself to start painting. It’s not what you might call instant gratification.

Thank you Postie

Sometimes it can be though! You are one parcel away from hobby progress. If you wish to skip a few steps then there are alternatives. Yes 1:43 scale means a toy soldier should stand about 40 mm high but modern heroic scale miniatures on a 3mm base look “ just about” right.

Warlord miniatures are huge!

So, eBay is your friend. For between a tenner and thirty quid you have yourself a very decent, robust model all ready to go. The alternative is still waiting on my painting desk I’m afraid.

Poor jeep!

It will get done, honestly! I just sometimes need to be making more rapid progress. It might help if I didn’t already have heaps of 15mm World War Two minis but could I ever resist?

I do have quite a few done!

Rules wise it’s Memoir 44 for 15mm scale and, believe it or not, Command and Colors Great War variant for 28s. The idea is that 28mm is for platoon level combat with a smattering of vehicles. Now this is committed to text, I feel better. My love affair with Command and Colors plums new depth next post as I enter the Star Wars universe and get royally thrashed by number one son!

“ Drat: if only our vehicle had been smaller!“

The weekend starts tomorrow!
