This Friday it’s a glimpse into the wargames cupboard of Mr. Mark ” baby-face” Clarke. Feast your eyes on everything from scary clowns to ninja ambushers…….

Mark wrote;

“It’s  a testing period, but at least it’s given some time to work on projects. I’ve always been a fan of eastern armies and play most of my ancients games in 25mm. One of the favourite armies I own is 25mm Southern Dynasty Chinese. I’ve used this extensively for a number of years and wanted to give it a few more options. I mostly play ADLG and have been impressed by the value for money of mediocre Pikemen. This was bought on home to me a few years back at a competition when the redoubtable Don McHugh’s Medieval Scots pike army did a ‘Clive Dunn’ and put ‘it up’ my unsuspecting troops. The Three Kingdoms Chinese list 180-316AD has an option to upgrade the foot to pikemen, so this was the one for me. The figures are 25mm Sui spearmen by Newline, but with 80mm steel pikes added. The difficulty is finding a supplier of figures with accurate Chinese arms and armour. However, these were a good fit. The colours were matched from a book on Chinese arms and armour. It took two weeks to paint what seemed like masses of troops. But, as everyone knows your hard efforts condense down considerably one you begin to add 8 or 12 figures to a base! It’s been a good project that hopefully won’t get caught out by the ADLG rules rewrite. There’s a little work to do here and there, maybe the odd flag to add and a command stand. However, I’m pleased with the results.”

Ever the completist, Mark has also followed Kevin Johnson’s lead with these rather super ambush markers. Too good not to have on table! Watch out for those darts!

Cheers

Newly promoted Tercio  cultural ambassador to Birmingham.

Editors note- there can’t be many painting tables that combine Chinese pikemen, scary clowns and a cowboy at ease! Thanks Mark, it’s great to see your work. Hope to see you soon on the tabletop battlefield! Don’t be deceived though, behind those youthful good looks lies the brain of a wargames assassin!

More displays of painting and games reviews are forthcoming…..

Thanks for reading!

    1. It’s great when markers can actually look good on the table. I’m not sure what the cowboy would signify on the table though!
      Are you all better?

      1. Yeah much better now thanks. Bit out of breath but between lockdown and illness my fitness has really suffered. Hope you are keeping well.

        Cheers,

        Pete.
