Don McHugh has been very secretive of late and today we can reveal the fruit of his labours. Famous for the quality of his models and terrain, he has surpassed himself with this game from the much anticipated Rapid Fire Uploaded. The new rules are very close to going on sale but in the meantime how could we not publish a photo-shoot of the Son Bridge scenario. The new Arnhem book is currently at the proof-reading stage , so until then, you will have to make do with this appetiser!

All looks very quiet around the bridge at Son but all that is about to change.

The view from the South, looking North towards Son.

Out to the West, at their start line, engines running, Panzerbrigade 107 begins its advance. The German force as to its arrival point, so adding variation to the scenario.

The brigade arrives ‘en masse’ from the West! The force features several of the powerful Sdkfz 251/21s. The Americans try to slow the column with artillery.

The rounds fall short and the German brigade is intent on reaching that bridge!

American reinforcements arrive from the North in the shape of a couple of six pounder anti-tank guns.

The AT guns move into the town and wonder if a dash over the bridge is worth the risk?

More Germans arrive along the canal road and whilst the first wave has already reached the crossroads on the lower road. And the arty is still trying to rang in on the half tracks!

Above, the second wave contains several Sdkfz 251/16s. These will cause the defenders some real problems.

With mortar smoke on the road and artillery smoke on the hedgerow, the tanks on reserve fire are effectively masked.

It’s time for one of the defender’s guns to make a dash for it!

Ambush on the Southern road! The lead half track gets a nasty surprise. The Americans had hoped to block the road and slow the German advance.

But, the reply is swift and the bazooka team is lost to return fire.

As the German infantry debus to enter the buildings on the top right, the Americans in the buildings opposite open fire. Will the Germans make it to the bridge? Will the gallant Americans hold out? Tune in for part two later this week!
