Yours in an hour!?

Now there is a problem with my hobby, I told my current wife that the thousands of minis I’ve collected over the years are practically worthless, scrap value only. And, then this happens….

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186735415062?_skw=dba+15mm+armies&itmmeta=01JAXNX0NZYY6C90YJT3EYHVHY&hash=item2b7a4c4f16:g:6lcAAOSwwtJnEXAG&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA0HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKlJRm1DvsfD7Li8vlwGIbGqHVTFVpOmi%2BFVd5doOiWnTiH4xqT%2FC5Pmd0BI%2BNHbaJ5CzwXu3iqgPjhV5%2BlMT6%2BP8YXEtDIRt7N8meBHyEeO%2FZKfERd9yBjqbG%2FyvmeVq3hwZqDVXHJJR70vWYB7gJXenG1cIWypBTkg5gb27bESQiP6%2FHR8IQBgpVzi6eshqVu341ld6NdsopR%2FDO60uZjOmk4zp%2BjdhYcf3%2FIZKS5EW2W7MJ8%2FpqId93hTJBkcriU%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR46L9LXXZA

In less than one hour Mr. Les Parsons stands to gain nearly four hundred pounds for twelve 15mm “dba elements” or bases of miniatures.

They are exceptionally well painted…
Neatly based and flocked
A great choice of miniature manufacturer; Cromarty Forge

But, four hundred pounds? Would your significant other agree to your outlay? Is it sour grapes from those doubters who can’t paint to this standard!?

I hate to say it, and I have put this argument, to her ladyship ( das Kaiserin), I personally think it’s worth it. In the first case, it takes literally hours to produce finished minis to the standard of the above photos.

15mm work of art

Yes the minis are well sculpted but you still have to have talent, and talent deserves rewarding? To get such a set professionally painted would be at least two hundred pounds plus cost of minis. These are top quality minis created by a painter who obviously knows what he’s doing.

How much “value” is there in such a purchase? Well I guess it’s how much use the purchaser will get out of the army. I was in conversation with a pal the other night who was extolling the virtues of only playing with one army over and over again. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but the idea is that one becomes proficient with an army and you get to play it well.

No monies were passed by Cromarty nor EBay vendor!

And finally, the problem most gamers have of course is not the cost of figures but the time it takes to get them on the table. I personally would much rather beautifully painted minis on the table than thousands of unpainted minis in the “ pile of inspiration”.

I do have these actual figures in my own pile!

So good luck to you Mr. Parsons! As the saying goes, “ the value of anything is decided by what someone will pay for it!” Half and hour til the sale ends now and you must watch the final item price. Away with the nay sayers, and the doubters, stick your golf clubs and gym memberships! It’s our hobby and we spend what we spend on enjoying ourselves!

Happy eBaying!

Check out the new Cromarty Forge miniatures; they are fantastic

  1. Those are very nice minis! 🙂 I have an understanding with my wife that I won’t ask how much she spends on her stuff if she ignores my spending on worthwhile stuff i.e. toy soldiers. 😉

  2. There are obviosly people around with more money than sense! It looks like they sold for over £500 and although the paiting is fair, it’s not half a grand.

    1. Wise words Philip! Five hundred and twenty five was final price. Hmmmmm very much in two minds: I would pay a larger sum of money for say a 28mm army or similar. With 15mm I think you are right, a tenner a figure is excessive but the market sets the price of course…
