Crossing the café area of Farnborough exhibition centre was Wargames guru and Dice Stud Colonel in Chief ( honorary), Simon Miller. Looking like wargaming’s answer to David Niven, Simon held us in rapt attention as he related progress on his Early Horse and musket rules, “Lust for Glory.”

Sid, of the Swansea chapter of the Dice Studz, had already tipped the gang off about this exciting development. Mr. Miller assured us all that progress in the shape of 1400 words had already been laid down. And then like Moses, he was gone, off in a blizzard of foil Bakewell tart foil wrappers…..
Talk of the 18th Century filled the air. Sid, we are told, has minis and the proto- ruleset. James spoke for what seemed an age about his American War of Independence collection ( sadly without an opposing force of Colonials- although I have at least started on the riflemen and Indians). Unwin made snide comments about 15mm gargoyles and John looked nervously around in case the teenagers, who had claimed our table first, returned. I was already lost; the dream had returned, the American Civil War or Second War of Independence!

A few year’s ago now the Forgotten and Glorious miniatures company folded. I was upset! Amazing sculpts and a collection that looked to be expanding but alas the French manufactures were no more and I thought my early purchases were to be the first and last.

Sci-fi gamers may lambast Games Workshop, but I can but praise Warlord Games for bringing back these French minis. I was decided; Mr. Millers rules and the Union army would be resurrected.

The 20th Maine was duly rebased. More Renegade giants from the late 2000s. Another manufacturer I dearly miss( Warlord! I’m looking at you!)

Kernstown 1862! A narrow Federal victory over Stonewall Jackson. I had enough miniatures to complete the order of battle and Mr. Lane has promised the rebel force. The map is from the excellent Command and Colors site.

As a number of the Studz are familiar with Black Powder, we intend getting back into the period on 28th November in Firestorm Games. Once we are familiar with ranges and abilities, then we shall continue with adapting To the Strongest. The army is packed and there is Rebellion to squash!

Stay tuned for a battle report and the rules amendments.
Regards
