Twenty four hours and I have to admit failure…

Far too much white!

It was going to be so easy. I’d watched all the new- generation of Warhammer painters ( those not constantly bemoaning their piles of shame) and I was ready.

A limited colour palette would do the trick!?

A midday start was perhaps not ideal. Around three o’ clock real life started to come knocking. Firstly the aircon on the car started whistling, followed by the trains that run behind the house nearly brought the back fence down. The car was “ fixed” by turning the air on off and the fence was put off to “ manjana!”painting was today’s priority.

Contrast paints are your friend!

Armypainter 2.0 Speed paint black is better at covering metal without annoying white dots. Contrast Darkoath flesh and Gore-Grunta fur gives you a choice of two horse colours. VMC leather brown and white are present in lesser numbers. So far and so good. Aggaros Dunes for some of the cloaks and I’m warming to the idea of iron-man.

Far too many browns
Far, far too many browns.

Who dreamt up the three shade method. Layering the browns nearly killed me. By eight o’clock I was ready for a break: why not watch a film….

It’s not pretty but the white areas were getting less: eight o’ clock!!

What followed was possibly the worst film I’ve ever seen. Bearing in mind I sat through the cinema version of Napoleon sitting next to my ninety year old father! How many times did Napoleon have to try for a son in one movie?????

Gladiator 2 : The Roman Empire should be the United Nations?

It was half ten and I should have got started painting again but Lucius and his multicultural legion had upset me! Why did I not learn my lesson? Nevermind bad actors like Andrew Tate corrupting our minds, I blame films like this! It’s like Gary Lineker wrote history or Kier Starmer investigated assaults on women. In short, I was off to bed!

Good morning!

Five more hours and I was done. Metals and three more colours left to do! But, it was midday and my time was up. The fence was at what I would describe as a “ jaunty angle”, we didn’t need car aircon because it was pouring with bank holiday rain and I wanted to exit my garden room.

I blame Ridley Scott!

Will I be finished by the end of today? It’s doubtful! But I have decided that the life of a full time painter is not for me!!! Still it is a good way of motoring through the unpainted metal/ plastic. Join me next bank: holiday for another, more modest challenge. I’ll provide a suitable prize to the best twelve miniatures painted in 24 hours! Tomorrow is another day and the moral is; rubbish films destroy motivation!!! When you look at the night sky and see only black: remember that for millennia there weren’t any stars! Keep painting!!

Just 24 hours ago!

  1. I can’t work out why you think that’s too many browns! 😉 You gave it a good go though! 🙂 I find I can’t paint for longer than about two hours without wanting to stop.

    1. Thanks John: for a first effort I’m quite pleased. I ‘m the same usually: two hours also allows stuff to dry. Another thing I’d not thought of was drying time.
Fine to have those browns, I just think highlighting each of them was ambitious! Always next time!
