Resolutely refusing to adopt modern technology until everyone else is heartily sick of it, I’ve just been toying with ChatGPT! I know the whole of Facebook is alive with animated toy soldiers but it has proved divisive. I personally love to see the images but others aren’t moved.

“Bog- standard” game in motion

I took the plunge and took advantage of a free month of ChatGPt ( plus). Here goes….

Love at first sight!

What do you think??? 🤔 Well I was hooked! Just as my imagination… erm… imagined! Germanic heroes charging across the battlefield. What about some medieval Italians?

Before!
After!!!!!

I’ve avoided computer games for a few years now but I fear technology will creep into my blog-life.

ECW on the table
On the field of AI battle
What would HQ think?

So I need your thoughts? Do you want all AI or none, or a mix??? I must be honest, I still quite believe the images.

Painting table heroes
Reimagined!

I notice that Total War are releasing Medieval War 3 and 3d printing gets better and better. Can we stand still? Is there a happy medium? Will I ever stop asking questions and start developing answers. That felt like a bit like hard work so I set about adjusting the photos from our SAGA tourney early in the year.

It was just like this!

Have a great Christmas! Remember to always go for the real and not the pretend! We will definitely be returning to this topic in the new year!

Stay safe!

  1. I’m impressed with the AI images, but I’d always rather see your miniature soldiers as they are (since they look spot on)!

  5. I personally enjoy seeing both. As a hobbyist, seeing REAL painted models is more inspirational and aspirational to me. But the AI images do provide a bit of fun and cool factor to be sure. Blogs are supposed to be fun anyway, so you do you!

I did think that the AI images gave a boost to my imagination: something that gamers can forget or minimise. God knows where will be in five years? 3d images anyone????

  6. Seeing your models transported into a vivid depiction of a warzone isn’t a million miles away from some of the images that GW and Forgeworld for one have used over the years in some of their box art and especially the older FW rulebooks/campaign books.

The difference is that the process doesn’t require someone skilled in photoshop and instead allows individuals to do so – removing barriers to entry and democratising the process with the use of a software tool. Not a million miles away from page layout moving from literal cut and paste into the realm of DTP we all comfortably live in today.

    1. Good points Azazel: I have got to admit I was taken aback by the quality and as you say, there just for the asking. A few weeks ago animated minis were all over Facebook to the consternation of many but to augment photography, I’m hooked!
      Merry Christmas!!!
