In Norse mythology, Midgard (or Manna-Heim) is the “middle enclosure” or world inhabited by humans. In Cardiff, Midgard: heroic battles is the latest shiny product to catch the Dice Studz attention. Manna- Heim is situated in the center of the cosmos, surrounded by an impassable ocean inhabited by the serpent Jörmungandr, and located between the celestial realm of Asgard and the icy/fiery realms of Niflheim and Muspelheim. Cardiff’s Firestorm Games is located across the road from Grangetown railway station.

Key Aspects of the attraction of Midgard

  • Cosmological Position: It is the central world of the Nine Realms, connected to Asgard by the Bifrost Bridge. The rules stands resolutely between historical gaming “ proper” and fantasy. As heroic as SAGA but without the complexity.
  • Physical Description: According to myth, Midgard was created from the body of the giant Ymir—his eyebrows formed the wall protecting it from giants (Jotunheim). The rulebook is equally equisite and is a joy to behold.
  • Symbolism: Midgard represents the human world, or civilization, situated in the middle of a wild, chaotic universe. The Dice Studz have always loved card- driven To the Strongest and Commands and Colors but Midgard marks a return to measuring and dice!
  • Etymology: The name comes from Old Norse Miðgarðr (“Middle Yard”), inspiring Tolkien’s “Middle-earth”. The figures come from existing collections and the plan is to fight our first action in twelve days!!!!
The Reconquista awaits!

Who in the club would not want to start with the Reconquista in general and the Legend of El Cid ( or El Sid in our case) in particular. As you may have gleaned, many of the Studz take a keen interest in Spanish Conservative politics and would welcome the chance to recreate the epic events of the period.

The Dice Studz are generally more conservative in their allegiance! Here we see them at Spanish Night at Beni Hassam’s Bar and Grill 2024
