A long time ago I would put on wargames tournaments. Players would even cross the Severn bridge to get to the event. Many happy memories were made before the tournament’s eventual demise, the warm glow dimmed by man-baby tantrums and the of lack of social skills of a minority. A conscious decision was made to avoid such toxic people but not before one of them had departed with my favourite set of rules: Blücher by Sam Mustafa.

Ground- breaking

Years have passed before such a loss could be rectified, until now. Our first game in a long time brought back great memories. If you haven’t come across these rules then search them up asap.. if you wanted to set up a game in double quick time, then purchase the cards too and you are ready to go.

My French assault the Austrians

The gameplay is simple and oh so well explained. I’m such a fan of the artwork of the cards and indeed the rule book. The rules are so well laid out and illustrated.

A closely fought battle ensued

A lot has been said recently about the merging of boardgames with tabletop and Sam Mustafa led the charge. There’s just enough detail for an absorbing game without too much “ granularity.”

Thinking of quick start?

If flat cards are not your bag then how about vertical flats? if it’s fine for 40k to go all flat terrain then how about historicals? Mr. Lane has invested heavily in wofun flats from Romania and they caused quite a stir!

Putting the two together, I think we have a winning combination. I’m beginning to have my doubts that I’m ever going to get Borodino on the table and yet there is now hope?

Wofun minis in Lust action

I also must get to finishing my American Civil War collection for the Blücher variant, Chamberlain. Join us next time for Mr Lane’s Spanish Succession battle report with flats.

So many projects!

Until tomorrow

Adios

  1. Probably somewhat surprisingly I have heard of both the Blucher rules and Wofun flat figures – both good products! 🙂

    1. The fifty quid price tag put me off buying it again but I got it from a club member for twenty. It’s a great game
Sorely tempted by Wofun!!!!! Bought some Punic wars minis but en masse they are great!

  2. Good post- I have Maurice but being card driven it’s marmite (yuck) to many….production values were tops though.

    1. I feel your pain! So many rulesets now are card/dice hybrids! I think simpler more boardgame like systems are the way forward!
The characters in Maurice are great and, as you say, Sam Mustafa rules are always so well explained!
