The deadline has been set and I must obey. If I am to get a :Midgard: wargames army on the tabletop by a week Thursday, I knew that I would have my work cut out.

First up is basing. :Midgard: has only five unit types and the bulk of them are covered by “ warriors” and “ skirmishers”- well it is a slogging match in essence?

SAGA barbarians

My first issue is that most of my true “ Dark Age” ( Early Medieval🧐) miniatures are single based for SAGA. I heartily dislike sabots; I don’t like the holes left when the warriors enter Valhallah and my personal organisation is slip-shod. Rather, I thought to keep the collection singularly based and just place them “ temporarily” on unit footprints.

SAGA singles- 30mm circles for foot and a rather grand 50mm by 35mm oval for mounted.
To the Strongest / “ Light Riders”

This project will be for 28 mm minis and the base is a recommended to be a 120mm by 60mm standard base. As you well may be aware if you have read this blog, this is also the size of Simon Miller’s TtS bases, with a little wiggle room for his frilly bases! No problem with utilising TTS armies as well as SAGA warbands.

Skirmishers with SAGA miniatures

So progress is being made; the plan is to lightly sand a good number of :Midgard: bases on which can be placed single miniatures. I was pleased with the potential look of the above foot skirmishers.

Light riders: thoughts on a postcard

Three light cavalry on one base seamed a little packed? I could always use two such bases with four minis? Heavy riders will definately be on two such bases, one behind the other.

Formed archers
Mad Irish warriors!

Because my SAGA bases are so wide, the warrior bases are quite thinly populated but that will speed up army creation. Next I will turn to El Cid himself and just how many bases I need to prepare.

And after Spaniards, Vikings!

Best wishes for the week

Miguel “ Balbo” Ferres
