I was on a budget. I was attending Partizan wargames show for the very first time and I had twenty five quid. How could I survive on such a paltry amount???? I had to choose carefully , for perhaps the first time ever, and not buy the first things that caught my eye. What a challenge!

A challenge made easier by stumbling upon Partizan Press: Painting 28mm wargaming figures- The English Civil War and Thirty Years War.

It’s a classic of its kind. Great coloured illustrations throughout and a real inspiration! The book gives clear instructions using easily obtainable paints. Another first for this month’s painting was the use of a wet pallette. I had about four paints on the go at the same time, making blends between miniatures easier and more gradual.

The book also referanced Pieter Snayers who I must admit I’d never heard of. A contemporary painter who uses quite a drab pallette of colour, but they look great!

I usually choose a colour scheme, colour wheel and all, and then add a garish pink or purple at the last moment. Using the new book I managed to curtail my urges.

So all that is needed now is to base and flag but that will have to wait until next weekend I’m afraid. I also have got to rebase my 15mm Normans for Command and Colors System X ( not that the BBC have provided inspiration!)

Thanks for reading, I shall post pictures of completed ECW units next week.
Have a great bank holiday!
Michael
