Was it Paul Hardcastle who wrote sometime in the nineties……
“I really wasn’t sure what was going on
N-n-n-n-nineteen, nineteen
N-nineteen, nineteen
In Vietnam the combat soldier typically served a twelve-month tour of duty
But was exposed to hostile fire almost every day
N-n-n-n-nineteen
(N-n-n-n-nineteen) nineteen”
Well, substitute Vietnam for a mud brick North West frontier village, inhabited by opium addicted Tongs and you had last night’s venue. Add in some redcoats, the Metropolitan police circa 1890 and a communist militia and you may understand just what was going on ( but I doubt it!). Oh and a golem, don’t forget the golem. Sid takes up the story….

We tried somethimg a little different tonight at Firestorm Games, a 4 way of 2nd Ed In Her Majesty’s Name. 4 factions of Scotland Yard for me, Prince of Wales Extraordinary Company for Michael Lane, the Servants of Ra which their devious magic tricks for James Churchill and unsurprisingly the Brick Lane Commune of Bolshie Marxists for comrade Douglas Baldwin hero of the people.

The scenario was to kill an escaped lab experiment located in the table centre.
Whilst I tangled with the mystic masters of the East, the people’s front of Judea (or was it the front of Judea people?) went direct to the middle of the table to engage the beast. In true Victorian style the Brick Lane commune used the tactics of a Tiger hunt and selected the youngest member to be the goat.
The beast charged the poor comrade knocking him to the ground and crashing forward into the rest of the commune who surrounded it ready to drag it down.

Meanwhile the Servants of Ra were mixing it with the Old Bill, smashing the Nordenfeldt gun on the steam truck, killing a couple of constables and even poor old Dr Watson was knifed by Sairah the assassin with poisoned knives, despite the best efforts of Sherlock Holmes’s to save him.

However you ask yourself, what were the Prince of Wales company doing? They quietly moved onto the table and occupied a local brothel taking up firing positions. As the commune surrounded the beast to take it down for the bounty, a lone British soldier took aim at the melee of the beast and the surrounding 4 commune members.

With only a one in five chance of picking out the beast, the shot spun through the melee striking true. The shot then struck the beast and despite its toughened hide and phenomenal constitution, the monster was destroyed. Quite an accomplishment for the British who despite having the highest leadership of all factions managed to be last in activations for every game turn!

A stolen victory by the British who took a steady no nonsense approach whilst everyone ran around like headless chickens. Once again the tortoise beat the hare.

A great game and one which we will have to revisit very soon. Our thanks to all who made it such a memorable night. Now I need a dark room in which to recover.
