What makes a great wargames show? Devizes has that West Country 1950s Midsomer vibe and Partizan has display games to die for. But, Colours has?????
It has great new ideas for new periods🥹. I know I’ve been banging on about finishing old projects but who isn’t tempted by Gerry Anderson style Commie hordes bulldozing through 1980’s Germany.
Colours has the usual tables that make you wish you had concentrated on one project. Did I really raid Hobbycraft for felt to show the battlefield geography. Richard Bodley Scott’s stained terrain cloth marked me for life!
Colours has the latest, eye straining, new trend for micro games. 6mm and even 3mm minis are just one step beyond for me but who could not be impressed with the above?
Old school rank and flank legionaries represented that which might be obtainable! The sheer number of minis in this game, best exemplifies the plastic bag wave of cheap, good looking models. Those Victrix bags just make me think that one bag is a day of cutting and glueing. I think I’m a metal dinosaur I’m afraid.
The societies were in attendance! My favourite was the ECW mega battle. Amazing to see so many amazing 28mm models from the Pike and Shotte society.
Colours also has a few surprises: a new Ancients set was really attractive and was interesting. Again, great presentation and professional materials.
So, Colours, in a nutshell, has it all. I was so impressed by the whole three floors of gaming. I’ve been going for decades and this is one of my most memorable. No show report would be complete of course without a list of my gamers haul; namely six boxes of tufts from Warpainter ( one pound each!!!).
But, honours go to Great Escape Games! I have found the answer to gaming World War Two. Daryl the author showered me with freebies on the promise that I would work on promoting these rules! How could I resist – standby for a beginners’ guide!
